Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After her father died as a carnival barker, at the age of an infant She was required to provide for the family by working as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. She left the school she attended after only two years in pursuit of acting as a profession. Her path wasn't without its challenges. When she was in New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines, her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. After a brief stint as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home and quit her job. She was in Boston when she worked at evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. She also studied drama and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
